ABOUT Paul Norris

Paul Norris is a registered architect,
principal of farmboy architecture, and architecture instructor at SAIT

As a registered architect, Paul believes a project’s design should be interesting and appealing, while being practical in meeting the client’s wants and needs. In a truly collaborative process, Paul builds a productive working partnership by integrating his knowledge and experience with his clients’ vision and ideas. As an architecture instructor, Paul embodies the role of mentor and advisor with his clients. He takes a humble and inquisitive attitude to every project, aiming to achieve his clients’ goals rather than his own. His relaxed and informal approach makes the design process an enjoyable experience.

With a focus on residential architecture and construction, Paul has worked for three of Calgary’s most prominent architecture and design firms: McKinley Burkart Architects, housebrand, and Sturgess Architecture.

Paul began his academic journey at the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He then went on to earn a Diploma in Architectural Technologies from SAIT, and a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Calgary. As a registered architect, he stays current with continuing professional development and is LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environment Design) accredited.

The University of Calgary listed Paul as one of 40 accomplished alumni in its 40-year history, and he also received 15 other academic and athletic scholarships and awards. As an instructor, Paul has won numerous awards, including three time recipient of the prestigious student-nominated award for teaching excellence, a provincial award for innovation in teaching, and an international award for excellence in teaching and leadership.
